This was the second room in a three-bathroom renovation. The en-suite was done first; this is the family bathroom.
Some walls were stripped back to bare brick, then dot and dabbed with new moisture-resistant plasterboard. The shower area was boarded with tile backer board instead — plasterboard has no business behind a wet room.

The main challenge with this room was a structural steel beam that spans from one side of the room to the other, which left nowhere obvious to route the wet room shower waste. Taken the direct way it would have had to climb over the beam, which meant raising the floor in the shower area and losing the flat, continuous floor the whole design depended on.

I ran the waste the other way instead, into the soil pipe in the cloakroom below — which I was also renovating, so the ceiling was already coming down. The floor stayed level and the customer never saw the problem.

The wall tiles are crackle-glazed, wany-edged metro tiles. They look lovely and they are unforgiving: adhesive, grout and even a pencil mark will wick into the crazing and stay there. Every tile was sealed before it went on the wall.
